The parallel activities of the 8th Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival include a film workshop "Storylab" with the director Erik Knudsen from Great Britain and the lecturer of the Department of Sound and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, Iakovos Panagopoulos . In this, the students who will be in Kalamata will be invited to make short films.
The aim of this workshop is the collaboration between students from various Universities of Greece, in order to find their own voice in film production, creating a series of short documentaries in a short time. The aim of the workshop is to apply to the Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival the principles of ethnomethology (media) used in the StoryLab International Film Development Research Network (funded by the AHRC), with the participation of people who want to find their own voice in filmmaking.
On Wednesday 13th of April there will be the presentation of Storylab's final product, short documentaries directed by students from three universities: Ionian Unversity, Aristotle's University and University of Peloponnese.
Short biographies
Erik Knudsen is Professor of Media Methodology at the University of Centra lLancashire in the United Kingdom. He has been Professor of Visual and Digital Culture at the University of Bournemouth, Professor of Film Methodology at the University of Salford in Manchester, UK, and Head of the School of Media, Music and Performing Arts at the University of Salford. He frequently attends international film schools where he conducts workshops, such as the International School of Film and Television in Cuba, where he was Head of Editing (2001-2009).
Dr. Iakovos Panagopoulos is an award-winning director, known for his recent films For Years Playaza Early (2019) and Allimonò (2020). His pioneering work is a combination of practical direction and academic research.
He is an active researcher, with numerous international publications. He is also an official researcher at the Story Lab International Film Development Research Network and a research associate at In Arts (Interactive research lab). He is also a member of the Greek Screenwriters Association and the Society of Greek Directors.
He is currently teaching at the Department of Sound and Visual Arts of the Ionian University, as an academic fellow, the courses: "Direction-Acting Elements", "Audiovisual Production Department" and "Video Recording Techniques".
