The Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival's purpose has always been to introduce the audience of Peloponnese some very special films from all over the world. This year according to the difficult circumstances it was decided that there will be a hybrid version of the festival with an ONLINE release in February and a live premiere in May. In this situation we asked volunteers and festival staff to interview the directors of the ONLINE program to bring them closer with the audience even if they couldn't have met in the theaters. Behind the scenes information, personal stories and more in depth approach to the films are available through these interviews. The interviews of the films included in the "Claiming Freedom" tribute have been conducted by the students of Theater Studies of University of Peloponnese, as one part of our collaboration with the University.

Madeleine Leroyer "#387"

Born June 14, 1984 in Brest, Madeleine Leroyer is a director and author. Graduated from Sciences Po in 2007, she was a correspondent in Russia from 2008 to 2014, and covered all Russian news for many French and French-speaking editorial staff. In 2016, while writing her first feature-length documentary, entitled “Number 387”, she attended a Varan workshop. She is also the author of “A Guinea Fowl Life in Moscow”, published in 2012, and joined the Accelerator Lab of the American foundation Chicken & Egg Pictures.

Michael Hewitt & Dermot Lavery "Lost Lives"

Michael Hewitt and Dermot Lavery are co-founders of the Belfast-based production company DoubleBand Films. In addition to LOST LIVES (2019), as joint writers/producers/directors, their productions include the critically acclaimed and award-winning feature documentary ROAD (2014), produced for the BBC and Northern Ireland Screen and narrated by Liam Neeson. Michael and Dermot have produced a wide range of documentaries for broadcasters including the BBC, Channel 4, TG4 and RTÉ. Their recent credits include the feature documentary Seamus Heaney and the music of what happens (2019) for BBC NI, BBC Arts and Northern Ireland Screen and a documentary with Mark Cousins for Channel 4 and NI Screen, 50 Years of the Troubles: a Journey Through Film (2019). As documentary filmmakers Lavery and Hewitt are committed to the principle of true stories well told – and firm believers that fact is often stranger than fiction.

Carmen Tamayo "Mujereando.The lament of a goddess"

Carmen Tamayo was born in Prado del Rey in 1979. She was graduated in Social Work and Dramatic Arts in Cristina Rota’s Academy. She completed her training with seminaries and dance, sing, voice and body language lessons with different teachers as important as Sara Torres, Armando Garcia, Chevy Muraday, Mónica Runde, Pedro Berdayes, Patricia Kraus, Manuela Nogales, Laura Alvea and Julia Oliva.

Then, she combined her theatre plays, film and television performances with the direction of different theatre companies (3Antié, La Pecera and Mujereando). Her plays are characterized by the social protest and they have a careful aesthetic analysis. These plays ‘Hamburguesa de Conejo’, ’Quién te vio y no te Recuerda’, ‘Aquí no hay quién nade’, ‘Sueños S.A’, ’¿Por qué?’, ‘Invisible’, ‘El Quejío de una Diosa’ and ‘Etiquetas’, have appeared as a collective creation for last 12 years.

On the big screen, she performed the role of Gloria in the film ‘No te supe perder’ and she had the leading role in short films like ‘No quiero’, ’Mentira’, ‘La Perdida’, ‘La Próxima Parada’ and ‘Espich’. Thanks to these interpretations she won 4 times the award for the best actress. She also worked as an acting coach and assistant director in ‘No te Supe Perder’, ‘Papá’ and ‘Pura, hasta la Sepoltura’ (Award RNE 2016).

Currently she lives in Seville and manages the theatre company ‘Mujereando’ which has got homeless women as actresses. Her debut as a director is ‘Mujereando. The lament of a goddess”.
