Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival is making documentary accessible for the hard of hearing community, blind and mentally disabled people!

The festival is being transformed with the initiative “Documentaries for All”, that will allow disabled people to have access to the program through dubbing, audio description and SDH subtitles.
It has a very important educational and cultural purpose as it is helping with the access of the disabled community in the cultural heritage. In addition, it is very important to have access towards educational documentaries. “Documentary for all” is an initiative of Creative Documentary Center in collaboration with Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting and Department of Audio Visual Arts of Ionian University that will choose the films and oversee the technical aspects of the program. During the 7th Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival in the summer in Kalamata two documentaries were screened with audio description and SDH subtitles for blind and d/Dear individuals, initiated by EKOME.

The creative Documentary Center of Kalamata is making something new! It’s the birth of a second international festival, this time for short documentaries, taking place every Fall, only in Kalamata!

Kalamata International Short Doc Festival will take place for the first time in October 2022 will be 4-5 days and will of course include international competition. The films will be judged by an international committee and will be able to compete for 4 awards: two awards for best Greek and International doc and another two for film student and school student award. The acclaimed films will automatically make it at the main program of Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival.

The selection for the films of the 1st Kalamata International Short Docs Festival has already started in October 2021 and will continue till September 2022. The audience of Kalamata has to decide this time!

How? Every month the filmmakers are able to submit their films through Filmfreeway. There’s the first evaluation by a 3-person committee inside the Center and the best ones are presented into the monthly voting process. The films with the most votes get into the yearly program of Kalamata Short Docs. This process happens once a month.

For the October submissions, the voting will happen this Saturday 13th of November at 20:00, in a special open screening at Creative Documentary Center (Benaki 11).

Pitching Lab in Collaboration with Ionian University

This new festival, which is unique in Greece and internationally, will have lots of parallel events such as workshops, seminars and other educational programs for students of all levels.

We prioritize the young audience to get to know documentary filmmaking and actively make something out of it. We give them the first push into realizing their own creations.

Under the official agreement between the Creative Documentary Center and the Department of Visuals and Sound of the Ionian University, Kalamata Short Doc will host a film student “Pitching Lab”. Pitching your idea is one of the most important processes towards funding and reaching your work towards cinema professionals.

Fresh, new things coming soon! You can submit your films through our Filmfreeway page and check our new Facebook page for more info!
