7th PelDocFest coming soon with many Greek premiere films

7th Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival has secured forty eight films from all over the world, most of them premiering for the first time in Greece online 5 to 14th of February 2021.

The festival is right around the corner with the final touches added, where the audience will be able to relax and watch awarded films from all over the world, free of charge.

Let’s not forget that the Festival will also take place physically 7 to 16th of May 2021, including the whole program, Greek and International on 9 locations (Kalamata, Patra, Sparta, Argos, Nafplio, Gytheio, Amaliada, Ksilokastro, Akrata). All of the awards will be announced as well in May.

The main tribute of the festival “Claiming Freedom” will include 13 films by foreign directors. The films talk about thirteen unique socio political events that have shocked humanity. Stories from all over the world, from Chile to Papua New Geanea, from Burkina Faso to Cuba, from Sri Lanka to Armenia, from Franco’s Spain to Nazi occupied Greece.

These award winning films talk about lots of matters in a unique way, such as Nature, Human Rights and Culture. Stories about lost lives and revolutions, battles and heroes, breach of human rights and dignity, films that celebrate the resilience of the human spirit in front of injustice.

Some of the exclusive Greek premiere films are:

Bloodless-The Path to Democracy by Bared Maronian and Silva Basmajian. It is an interesting political thriller narrating the events in Spring 2018 in Armenia.

Fixed Shot-100 Recordings around Dignity Square by Cristián Pérez Reyes. On 18th October 2019, Chile went through the most important social revolution since the regime change. 

Love Lives by Michael Hewitt and Dermot Lavery. A film inspired by the book with the same name that describes in a unique way every death during the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland (1968-1998).

Unblock Cuba by Sergio Gregori Marugán. A portrait of the recent history of Cuba and how the American government has been trying to control the Caribbean area.

 

The other major tribute of the festival is about Gender Equality, including 7 films that set a global tone, trying to intrigue and educate and possibly make people fight for their rights. 

 

Some of them will have their Greek premiere in the festival such as:

Being Eriko by Jannik Splidsboel. A look into the life of talented Japanese pianist, Eriko Makimura, that her art and concerts are connecting a grotesque aesthetic and gentleness.

The New Abolitionists, by Christina Zorich. This award winning documentary (16 awards till now), director Christina Zorich follows people that have dedicated their lives into saving, rehabilitating and conviction of people around the trafficking industry, for sexual exploitation.

March for Dignity by John Eames. The film awarded 7 times, follows a small group of LGBTQ activists in Tiflis, Georgia, as they are trying to organise the first Pride March.

 

During the online release of the festival, a round table discussion will take place with the title “ Claiming Freedom - War Correspondents “ including Greek and foreign directors, journalists and reporters. Between them, Brazilian Iara Lee, activist and director, the director of “Photographer of War” Boris Benjamin Bertram from Denmark and Nitza Kakoseos Dominguez, from Sweden that is a director/journalist and war correspondent in Nicaragua

The discussion will be coordinated by the director of “Shooting vs Shooting - Dying for the Truth” Nikos Megrelis. Along with them the students of Theater Faculty of University of Peloponnisos will take part in the discussion, The discussion will be broadcasted live so that the audience can interact.
