Creative Documentary Center

The very important and unique collaboration between Peloponnisos Doc Film Festival and Zinebi FIlm Festival from Bilbao Spain, one of the most important international film festivals.

After the finalists were chosen along with their projects, 3 Basque and 3 Greek filmmakers have already started producing a fragmented documentary around "Claiming Freedom", which will be around 90 minutes long. Moreover, with the collaboration between the two festivals, 63rd Zinebi Film Festival (12-19 November 2021) will screen 3 chosen Greek films from Peldocfest's program from the last 3 years.

More importantly, the 3 Greek screenplays chosen for the coproduction are:

1. "Kalavrita - Guernica" by Ismini Sakelaropoulou.

Two war-ridden towns have been the beacons of freedom during the past, taking the heat of Hitler's attacks. In this documentary those two places will come together analyzing their somehow common history into the future.

2. "Exit In" by George Danopoulos

Marinos and Charilaos are two young people with a common past, different present but perhaps a common future; that of freedom.
Marinos answers that question from inside the prison for juveniles and young adults of Avlona, while Charilaos from his own home, after being recently released from the same prison.

3. "Maria, the Deafening Orgasm of my Body" by Kalliopi Legaki

The film is about the life story of Maria Katsikadakou - Cyber, a woman that is fighting for her sexual orientation and rights in a community that is still plagued with stereotypes and prejudice.

From the Basque side, the following screenplays were chosen:

1. DISENCHANTED by Marisol Gil Antillano & Aleix Aguilá.

The constant battle between the meaning behind words, trying to make them our own, especially important words such as Freedom and Justice.

2. THE OTHER LIGHT by Paula Gómez González.

In this documentary, the freedom of life after retirement and the personal space away from the cities is being compared with modern public spaces, consumerism and life under new technological advancements.

3. Α MORNING PORTRAIT by Marcos Urquijo Yáñez.

Starting from the referendums that took place in Greece in 1973 and Spain in 1978, the documentary is talking about the idea of exile, utopia and borders, all through archival footage of the time.

The coproduction is expected to finish in Summer 2022, but there will be a live short presentation of a work-in-progress during the 8th Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival on 4-13th February 2022.

The finished documentary will be screened on both the collaborating festivals, in Zinebi in November of 2022 and Peldocfest during winter of 2023, including the screening on Faitodocs in Napoli, Italy and other European festivals.
