The curtain falls for the 7th PIDFF in Kalamata on Sunday, while continuing successfully at the other cities of the network!

After a 16-day program of daily screenings, seminars and parallel events, the 7th International Documentary Film Festival of Peloponnese concludes this Sunday, July 4, at the Municipal Railway Park of Kalamata (119 Aristodimou str.), with a closing ceremony full of surprises!

The event will take place at 21:00, at the remodeled skating rink, where the documentaries' screening took place daily.

The evening will begin with the award ceremony. The three-member international committee for the Equality Awards consisting of: Laura Cini (Italy-Director), Anne Kjersti Bjørn (Norway-Director) and Panagiotis Evangelidis (Greece-Screenwriter / Director), will be in Kalamata to give these awards.

The well-known director Tassos Boulmetis (much-loved by his films "Politiki Kouzina", "Notias", "1968") will also be present and will hand out the "Claiming Freedom" Award, voted by the Jury, which consisted of Students of the Department of Theatrical Studies Of Arts of the University of Peloponnese, as part of the collaboration of the Festival with the department, with Aggeliki Spyropoulou as its Head of Studies and President.

The Best Documentary Audience Award of this year's 7th event will also be given, having been decided after a digital vote of the festival's online audience.

The evening will continue by featuring a short documentary created by students of the School of Fine Arts during the seminar of the Italian director, Tekla Taidelli, founder of the Street Cinema School.

The seminar followed the theme of the Festival -"Claiming Freedom" - inspired by the poem of Pier Paolo Pasolini: "Poetry in the shape of a rose",

as part of the educational activities of the 7th International Documentary Film Festival of Peloponnese.

The event will close with the screening of the fiction film by Tassos Boulmetis "Mythopathy", as part of the "Station Cinema" event, realised under the patronage of the Commission "Greece 2021", with the help of OSE and GAIAOSE. In this event, the old railway stations in Kalamata, Tripoli, Patra and Messolonghi come back to life for a single night, transformed into the summer cinema "O Stathmos" ("The Station"), screening award-winning films from modern Greek cinema.

The cities were selected based on their leading role in the historical events of the Greek War of Independence of 1821.

The event will feature interpretation in sign language throughout its entirety.

Finally, on July 25, in Sparta, the Sparta Award for the Best Greek Documentary will be given, which was adopted by the Municipality and is accompanied by a cash prize by the Municipality.

The Jury that will award this prize consists of Eleni Alexandrakis (director), Robbie Eksiel (film journalist-critic) and Konstantinos Blathra (film journalist-critic).

We kindly remind you that the Festival will continue until July 28, in open spaces throughout 10 other cities participating in this year's event, namely: Sparta, Patras, Gythio, Xylokastro, Amaliada, Akrata, Dimitsana, Stymfalia, Levidi and Derveni.
